Hi,

Well I'm a high school student currently. I'm going to take geometry for my 9th grade math. I was wondering if I can finish a whole year of Algebra 2 during the summer?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

yes, about 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, about 6 weeks. that is if there is a community college in your area that offers it.

I think that would be almost impossible. As a very good high school math student, I took a whole year of geometry in summer school (six weeks, five days a week, four hours in class each day). That was extremely difficult. I think algebra 2 in summer school would be even harder. I don't recommend it. Algebra 2/trig is a more important class than geometry. You need to really understand it well as both precalculus and calculus require your expertise in algebra.

I don't really see why you want to do it. Even if you don't, you can still get to calculus for your senior year.

Freshman - Geometry
Sophmore - Algebra 2/Trig
Junior - Precalculus
Senior - Calculus

Yes you can take Algebra 2 in summer school (of course, you will have to do it next summer). However, summer school won't be the best route to follow--you won't learn nearly as much when you are cramming a bunch of material in like 6-8 weeks. Also, the students in there will usually have been ones who failed, so the class might be dumbed down, so to speak. This could cause a problem for you when you are trying to take your fourth year math course (pre-calculus, trig analysis and advanced algebra, or whatever), as you might no understand what you are doing.

My advice would be to double up and take Geometry and Algebra 2 during the regular school year this year. Yes, I am suggesting that you take 2 math courses during your ninth grade year. Geometry and Algebra 2 are not dependent on each other, so technically you can do that. This year will be the only opportunity you have to double up on math courses--all the ones higher than Algebra 2 will be dependent on the course that you take right before it. For example, your ability to do well in pre-calc/trig will depend on Algebra 2 and Geometry, and your ability to do well in calculus will depend on skills in pre-calculus/trig.

Yes. My high school for some reason put me in algebra I honors, even though I did not learn a single new thing in my class, so I took geometry over the summer. It was only six weeks, and they also had a six week summer course in algebra 2 for sophomores to be. It is possible, but only if your school offers it.

That is just impossible, how could you even think that would work? How could a person finish a whole year of algebra 2 in the summer? Maybe if it was the winter or even spring, but summer? What were you thinking? The sun does not allow. You are crazy to even ask such questions... What I'm saying is, no one knows how you study or how fast you learn, so why are you asking us about your capabilities?

If that course is offered by an educational institution for students to enroll in during summer then I suppose that it could be finished else, they won't offer it at all.

I think you can if you're dedicated and have a good grasp of the material/have access to someone who can help you.
