how can i level 1/2" cement backerboard with 5/8" greenboard? i just replaced the old drywall in my tub area with cement backerboard but the rest of the walls are 5/8". they only have 1/4" & 1/2" backerboards.

I would cut firing strips on all the studs, it's real easy and quick, it will suffice.

Use the 1/2" cement board with 1/8" furring strips on the studs behind the cement board. This will raise the cement board to 5/8" and level with the rest of the wall.

either try leveling it off with some extra grout when applying the tile............if thats what you are using

or find like a bullnose tile piece - I think its called or basically its like a thin piece of tile that is typically rounded off on its edges and would create like a decorative lip effect... It would look similar to the idea of using border with wall paper....again thats if your using tile ...this actually I think would look alright.
