They ALWAYS voice that complaint when it seems that's the standard formula for movies; You start slowly to create the mood and introduce characters, then build to the big climax. So why do people always complain because they spend 20 minutes establishing things. If they didn't people would complain about lack of 'character development'. (another lame criticism).

i totally agree!
almost every movie review does that.
obviously a "slow start" is necessary because characters need to be introduced, calm mood to be set in prepare for climax, etc.
i don't understand why people can't appreciate a perfectly fine movie because they can't be patient enough to find out all beginning facts.
another stupid movie review statement for a movie based on a book (example: harry potter) is "i hated this movie because alot of stuff was missing from the book."= obviously the 500+ page book cannot all fit into a movie, otherwise people would be bored with all the unimportant details.

I've reviewed movies saying that.. but 20 minutes is nothing.. when you get more than half way through the movie and there is no reason to be at all interested in what happens later.. that is a slow start to me.. (assuming it got better after that point.. which is not all that common.. normally by the hour mark it either is or it isn't..)
