The government tried to make Jessica Lynch out to be this courageous hero that fought off insurgents and was valiantly rescued, but that turned out to be a lie (she exposed it herself, saying she was found unconsious and our troops were contacted to come pick her up).

They tried to make Pat Tillman out to be this courageous hero, a former NFL star that walked away from millions to serve his country patriotically but was killed in battle and that turned out to be a lie (to cover up the fact that he was murdered).

Have we become such a controlled, dictatorial society that our own government has to lie and cover up facts to sell us on this war because Americans just don't believe this war is justified?

I think so. People speak of America as some Holy land compared to places where the gov't is in your faces covering up everything to make it look like we're something we aren't. America is no different than Russia where people go missing if they know to much. Know diff. than thosoe countries that listen to your phone calls, read texts, etc. Some are just to stupid to see it.

As a matter of fact we have. Spreading "patriotism" through heroic stories is only part of it.Think about the beginning when the pretext for the war was weapons of mass destruction. That was obviously a load of crap. When that failed, the pretext quickly, and conspicuously, changed to the messianic message of democracy promotion. Bush talked as if he had always planned to liberate the Iraqi people, even though the first reason for invading was the threat Saddam's regime posed to the American people. If he really cared about the oppressed of the world why didn't we invade Darfur. That is genocide. You could say that Saddam killed a hundred thousand Kurds and however many Shiites, but how long ago was that? This idiot Bush thinks he has everyone fooled. No wait. He knows noone believes him. The Democrats think they have us fooled. They have the same imperial ambitions as the Bush administration, they are just in a politically advantageous situation. They aren't in control, so it's easy to say they would have handled it differently.

Okay, but what about the propaganda of the media that doesn't tell you that the coalition forces are even attempting to do anything besides drive up and down roads waiting to get blown up?

Don't you think that the absence of even the occassional word about how that soccer team managed to have a few practice sessions in peace, and not die from drinking raw sewage might be a form of propaganda?

Yes, our government will say or do anything to further their agenda. You can't trust a single one of them. They are all in this together and I pray every day we will survive the attack of our government on our own citizens.

Apparently we're not being controlled. Lot of these lies are eventually exposed. Seem like they should learn by now how not to damage their credibility with stupid lies. But they just keep doing it over and over.
