The answer is....x=-2

3x-5(3x-7)=2(x+9)+45

3x-15x+35....because you multiply each number in the () by -5....=2x+18+45....because you multiply each number in the ()
by 2....

THEN

3x-15x+35=2x+18+45

subtract 3 from -15....

add 18 and 45

THEN

-12x+35=2x+63

subtract 35 from both sides

-12x=2x+28

THEN

subtract 2x from both sides

-14x=28

THEN divide 28 by -14

Therefore....x=-2

I hope that helps....it took me a few tries, because I am not in algebra any-longer....

First step is get all the x-terms on one side.

If you are adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing by a value on one side, you have to do that on the other side as well.

Starting with 3x-5(3x-7)=2(x+9)+45 Let's expand the equation by multiplying through 5*(3x-7) and 2(x+9).
This leaves: 3x-15x+35 = 2x+18+45

Let's subtract 2x from the right side and put it on the left
3x-15x+35-2x=2x-2x+18+45
3x-15x-2x+35=18+45
-14x+35=18+45
Subtracting 35 to both sides gives
-14x+35-35=18+45-35
-14x=28
Divide both sides by -14 to get the answer
x=-2

Take the extra time to write down each step and cross terms out will help prevent you from making mistakes.

Hope this helps. Try and find similar problems in your books that have the final answer in the back and solve them to make sure you understand how to do these types of problems. It just takes a little practice.

do the parentheses first, as you use Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. After you distribute the 3x-5 to the 3x-7 and get you answer, do the same thing on the other side of the equal sign (meaning distribute the 2 to the x+9). Then when you have that, isolate all your x's on one side of the equal sign, and you have your answer. If you do one thing at a time, it's easy. Especially since you are in 5th grade, so I'm assuming that you aren't solving for x, just trying to simplify the equation.

Hint: you should NOT arrive at 6x+35=2x+63

PS dlgclg or whoever's answer is above mine is wrong, so don't do that....hopefully you know more math than that

um 1st of all, not to be mean, but you shouldn't be asking us if we can do your homework for you. I think if you think really hard on it and keep trying then you will get it.
