Im a mature 18 year old male and Im going to college this fall in Mobile, Alabama. Im really good with kids, but I have never had a chance to work with them for a job. Anyways I was just going to ask what some of the women (especially parents) would think about it if I called for some babysitting jobs listed in the newspaper or something?

I want honest opinons but Im good with kids and responsible. Would you hire an 18 year old male babysitter?

I disagree with the other posters here, I don't see anything wrong with it but you would be better off if you have at least one good referral, have you done any babysitting in the past and can you get some good referrals? that would help tremendously. As a parent, I would consider a babysitter of either gender as long as they had some experience and at least one referral. And of course I would not hire you to babysit my 13 year old daughter LOL - Best of luck !

I don't have kids, but one of my good friends had a male babysitter for years. However, I do think it is unusual, and we have been told so often that pedophiles try to put themselves in the position of being near kids so often that unless you were a relative or the child of a close friend, I don't think most women would feel comfortable. I know that a young woman I know had a son whose father was not in the picture, and I really thought he needed a Big Brother or some similar male role model. The mother said that she was too scared, even though she realized that they did all sorts of background checks. Let's face it; we hear a lot about males molesting children of both genders, but very little about women doing so. It does happen, but far less frequently than when a man is in the picture.

Honestly, I would probably have to know you beforehand. Like have grown up with you or known you a while e.t.c. It may not be as bad if you are watching older boys. You can almost be more like a friend and mentor for them. (maybe 9-14 or so). As for girls, no probably not. Hope this helps!

Nope. But I knew of an 18 year old dude that worked at a Christian day care, and then there is Britney Spears. So two people have done it.

I'm sure that you will be able to find someone that will let you babysit their child (especially if they have a son). Most people trust more in females when it comes to babysitting but there are always exceptions. Good luck.

Nope. I think it will be hard for you to find work. Most parents would much rather have an innocent little girl watching their kids than a hormonal teenage boy.

They probably hire you, But baby sitter job is quite complicate. lots of responsibilities are laying. If you really eagar to do that job then ask them whether they will hire you.

I would avoid that if i were you. THere is too much paranoia these days that all men are child molestors.

One day, one of the kids you baby sit will say something wierd to his/her mom. Mom then runs off to a therapist who coaches the kid to say you molested him/her, and BAM! You're in jail cuddling up to Bubba.

Again, I say, avoid it.
