Not at all. When you only get a few hours sleep, you feel much worse, but if you stay awake you will get a 'second wind' after your most tired stage, in which you will feel almost normal.

The reason you feel so bad after a few hours sleep was explained to me like this: when we sleep, our body does like a 'defragmentation' (like on the computer) of our mind and body. If we are pulled out of this 'defrag' before the process is finished, we will wake up in an even more fragmented state than when we went to sleep.

I had that situation the other night actually. Needed to be up at 4:45 and problems kept me up forever, it seemed. I FINALLY slept and I wasn't too bad the next morning.

So it's always been my experience to get even a small bit of shut-eye than none at all.
Staying up straight through is never good.
