or am I wrong? Since both the games are similar, why there's this difference?

Maybe because badminton is perceived to be more asian, just like table tennis. I like badminton though. My mom taught me to play it when I was a kid, so I like it for sentimental reasons. I love watching regular tennis, although I really suck at playing it.

Badminton is played mostly in Asia. It has never gone out as
a competitive sport like Tennis other than in Asia. It is played
as a recreational sport in the West.
Even Table Tennis/Ping pong is as good as badminton but
neither have picked up in the West.
Both Badminton and table tennis are played indoors.

Tennis is played all over the world and it has done the right
marketing and interests are developed. It is both an indoor
and outdoor game.

Tennis and badminton are two different sports. They may look the same but the mechanics for hitting a shot are very, very different.

Tennis players are more famous than badminton players because of the scope of these two sports. Tennis is more global. Unless I'm mistaken, badminton is confined to Asian countries (Malaysia, China, etc.) and some European ones (Netherlands, France).

Also, not sure if you've noticed this, tennis players are often um, appealing to the eye hence their added commercial appeal.

Tennis players are more famous than badminton players because tennis is more popular , more glamourous and is considered to be more of a "mainstram" sport than badminton. As tennis is more popular , its players have more ad contracts and more exposure , hence they're more famous!!!If you ask why tennis is more popular , its because the sport has been developed more than badminton-adminton is a huge thing mostly in Asia only , while tennis is popular the world over - USA,Europe ,South America, etc.
It has a few parallels to the case of hockey and cricket over here in India.!!!!

Mainly due to the big sponsors and the huge prize money involved. Moreover,in the recent past ,badminton has been monopolised by the
Chinese and players from southeast Asia.So is the case with table tennis, called ping pong in the US,which is exclusively the domain of China.
Of course TT has produced Jan Ovelander(if I
have gort the name right)who was a world champion till recently.

i dont want to be mean, but tennis requires much more skill........

ive played tennis against badminton guys and they cant even handle the crazy amount of spin...... badminton is all about driving the shot or just hitting it light...

badminton has 3 options:
1)hard shot
2)weak/lob shot
3)drop shot

tennis includes all of these and more because it involves spin.....

so tennis is a much harder/skillfull sport than badminton, and trust me, ive switched from badminton to tennis......
