"hard life"? Why do you come to this conclusion?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by marks...but I think if someone has really weathered skin, it seems like they might have had to do a lot of physical labor outdoors (which could mean a hard life). When someone has a lot of acne scars, the roughness of the skin tends to be a little aging, I think. You see someone with smooth, glowing skin, and they seem healthy and like they don't have a care in the world. When you see someone with skin that's marked in some way, you just get a sense that things weren't quite as easy for them. This isn't logical, of course...I think it's just one of those subconscious things.

I don't but a theory could be that people associate marks on the face with battle scars which would lead them to think the person had a hard life ;)

I don't think that when people have marks on their face....but I do think that when people have developed a "hardened look"...a different thing. Often a hard life of drinking, smoking, and generally not taking care of their health...will show up in their face....a "hardened life"...does show.

But "marks"...could be scars, etc. which are not the same thing.

What kind of marks? The pock marks of acne? Marks as in scars? It would depend on the mark itself and I don't assume anything about the way people look. Your question is too generalizing as far as the marks!

to your first question I don't think that is true at all. to your second question, nul answer as the first is not established even as a generalization.
