ie (smaller government)???

Does this include Reagan's "war on drugs" and the legacy police state which ensued, the moral premise: saving you from yourself, all while creating a criminal justice tax dollar built empire?

What they mean is they want as little oversight as possible.

Repubs are all about making Corporations first class citizens, making such "citizens" immune from criminal justice and granting businesses special tax rates. Abraham Lincoln saw this development with the rise of corporations supplying the Army and left the Republican Party to seek election for his 2nd term.

Once we acknowledge the genesis of Republicanism, then we begin to see why we have examples such as wars without end -- it unprofitable otherwise; why we must dictate monopolies -- a corporation is defined as limited ownership that gains citizenship recognition; and private prisons -- pass the tax bill to the local communities.

Corporate Welfare is very real, very mean and non-Christian. We must cast at least 10% of the American people into a 2nd class caste to ensure the marginal capitalists amongst us will have a sense of well-being.

Both parties are socialist - the Dems just more so then the Repubs. Both parties claim a certain ideology but there is not a whole lot of difference in action and the ideology has shifted a few times in the past. For instance, until the 1930s, the Repubs were pro high-tariff and the Dems pro free trade - that has now reversed (in theory).

While I'm kicking myself for saying this because I feel their non-interventionalist ideas are extraordinarily dangerous in the modern world, if you really want small government and laisez faire, the only party that truly believes that is the Libertarian Party.

I usually vote republican and yes, they are liars. In other words, they often do not practice what they preach. Libertarians are more consistant about limited government.

If republicans want "little government interference" they wouldn't be trying to interfere on social issues like abortion and drugs and prostitution. Being entrenched with the christian right prevents this from ever happening.

I say, if you are not hurting anyone else, what the hell is the problem?

Yeah pretty much. There is no "smaller government" people in either party. Gotta go with the Libertarians for that. Republicans love big government, lots of laws, and spending money as much as the Democrats do.

Exactly. Instead of having the sense of the Dutch, who tolerate cannabis use in small amounts, the Reagan declares war on pot and automatically makes coke a much more viable drug to traffic; it doesn't take as much room and it has a higher street value.

People get put in jail for pot use and your taxes increase because of it.

Real smart move, there...

Plus, they haven't stopped the flow of any drugs; just made them more expensive.

I am not a republican but I do want smaller government. You see there is this document (maybe you've heard of it) called the Constitution and it says that Government's job is to protect our God given rights not feed the poor, educate (or indoctrinate) our children, support artists who aren't good enough to sell their own work and so on and so on. The more socialism we allow in to our lives the less freedom we will have. So you see it you who refuses to see the big picture not me.

I think what they mean by as little government interference as possible is that they want to spy on Americans with no warrants and no oversight by Congress. And, guess what, they got their way again for another 6 months.

I actually agree with you on this one, Jane.

No politician wants smaller government. It would be like a corporate executive saying "I want a smaller office with a crappier view and I don't want to use the company jet anymore and I'm not using my expense account anymore, etc.".

Those lawmakers (dems and repubs) get treated like royalty and, although they are not entitled to it, they love it.

Republicans are some what true in some cases. Gov didn't do squad for Katrina victims. There's small gov for you. They kept their word on that Katrina thing; no gov interference, no help.

But when it comes to security, who knows. With all that data mining crap I wouldn't be surprise if they got super computers analyzing my answers on Yahoo Answer. Looking for hidden code. Well there ain't non.

Of course their lying. All of this proposed legislation to ban abortion and gay marriage is obviously means MORE government interference. Patriot act, illegal wire tapping...the neocons want to turn us into their model of Saudi Arabia.
