It might be some sort of a mental disorder, I had a friend, like that...... there was a lie almost in every sentence that came out of her mouth...At first I didn't understand it, then I figured it had to be some sort of mental disorder, because she was in her 50's, so it's not common for someone of her mature age to be inventing such drama stories, she also had alot of problems and was alone...She was also very sweet and likeable, which is why I kept helping her...One time she made up this story were someone stole her identity and emptied out her bank account, then days later someone stole her purse, then her car..I gave her some money, as a friend and figured she might be deceiving me, but she wasn't fooling god...I was never mad at her, and I still wish her the best....She's moved out of state now.....Hum, I wonder if this is the person your talking about j/k...

I agree with the others, and also, I think it becomes a habit. I've witnessed habitual liars just lying without even thinking about it, for no reason, just because it was their first reaction to the situation.

I don't know. I don't THINK I have low self-esteme. I lie all the time, and about really stupid stuff. If I went to the store and someone asked me where I was I would say "Oh, the library".
Sorry, don't know why.
