Yes you will need to pay $600 income tax as your income is more than $36,000. Any amt more than $20,000 is subject to tax. However, you can avoid paying it by packing the excess in Singaporean investments, CPF, insurance. Why not put $16,000 into some Singapore-based unit trusts? Earn capital gains and avoid taxation at the same time.

You are liable for income tax if you are legally working in Singapore. The good news is the rate is not high. Your HR department should be able to help you but you can also do your own research at, http://www.iras.gov.sg/ESVPortal/Home/index.asp

Good Luck
