traditionally at the quarterback position, if they holdout and came in late they really don't pick up on the offense. cullpepper is a good pickup for them but he hasn't been the same since getting hurt in Minnesota. if Russell holds out to long he will find himself in the same position as will Brady from Cleveland. they will fall into same group as heath shular. remember him

Now that they have Culpepper they are more willing to let Russell hold out.
He obviously wants some huge money, and I'm sure most of it he wants guaranteed.
When is the last time you seen Al Davis spend that kind of money on ANY player?
Yes, he was the number one pick in the draft.
And I know his agent is telling him to hold out until he gets what he wants, that way the agent gets a bigger chunk as well.
As far as I think what SHOULD happen.
The league needs to set a date, preferably the day training camp starts, and make that day the deadline that all newly drafted players have to be signed by. If they are not signed by that day, they should be declared ineligible to play until the next season.
But that's just my opinion.

Holding out for an extended period of time is really bad news for Jamarcus' development. I watched him play at LSU and while he has tremendous skills his weakness was making decisions timely because of his inability to read defenses quickly. Now when you go from college to pros this weakness doubles itself. The speed of the pro game is so much faster than college and the window of opportunity is only open a brief moment. Remember it took Peyton 2 years to adjust to the pro game.
I think the Raiders picking up Culpepper is a great move and I see him playing most of the games. Jamarcus is not quick upstairs and the pro game is more complicated than college. Therefore, Jamarcus needs to get into camp as soon as possible to have any chance of contributing this year.

I think they should start Culpepper come the start of the season because like analysts have being saying, Culpepper wouldn't sign with a team if he didn't think he'd have a chance of competing for the number one spot on the depth chart. And on ESPN, I heard that Jamarcus actually wants to go to training camp badly, but he's put everything into the hands of the people representing him (i.e. He wants to play & his reps. want mo' money, mo' money...... & mo' money.)

Culpepper will start the season because Russell will not be ready. Eventually, they will come to an agreement.

ist not so much that they dont think they will reach an agreement its just that he is so far behind. its a lot faster in the nfl than in college and really it isnt a good idea to have a rookie start for the first half of the year anyways. they need time to develop. now that hes missed going on 2 weeks he is way behind. its a lot easier to learn stuff in 2 weeks of training camp with nothing else going on then later on when you got games and everything else.

what i think should happen is he should fall back on his degree and use that to get a job (if he actually earn a degree which i really doubt cause he is so stupid) He should never play another down of football because he sucks. He is one of the most over-hyped athletes i have ever seen. Its so stupid that he went number one. The raiders suck and he sucks. in 5 years no one will remember him

he is only hurting himself here by not being in camp. he is already behind the learning curve and you dont learn the offense during the season, you learn it before the season starts.
