What is a good brand of translucent powder, and what shade would be good for someone who is fair skinned? Should you go a shade darker, lighter, or stay the same with your skin tone?

I use a translucent powder to take away shine on my face. I love the one Rimmel makes. They actually make a shade called Translucent it's light in color. it's just to highlight and take away shine. Not to add color. For color you need something else.

The Mark brand by Avon has a fantastic fine-milled powder in compact form that is awesome! I find it as good as other brands that are way more expensive. Other brands that are also great are L'Oreal and Revlon. I'd say those are the highest quality in the drugstore range. Of course, if you can spend more, Estee Lauder, Lancome and Clinique all have really good powders, but it depends on the pocketbook. As far as color, stick to as close to your own skin tone as possible. Lighter can look pasty and darker would not match your neck. Unless you're using a face bronzer-tanner to change your skin tone, then stick as close to whatever shade your skin becomes. Any foundation to look natural, has to be as close to your own skin color as possible. Unless you're on stage, that's the only time you'd cross color rule boundaries!

never ever go darker than you skin tone. you should try to match your skin as close as possible. I love bobbi brown sheer finish powder. I normally use the loose powder. They recommend the pale yellow for most people. unless you have super pale, porcelain type skin, the pale yellow should work for you.

my mom and i are totally different skin colors from each other, but we both use the same powder, the pale yellow sheer finish.
