I think it is a terrible profession for women and wouldn't want any girl who was my relative to be one. In fact, I don't think a woman should even be in a bar without a male guardian.

You know they are going to tear you up right? Women make money just like men and we get to vote also. If there weren't any women in the bar without a male guardian why would the men bother going? I mean unless they want to sit around and look at a bunch of dudes. I have great respect for the bartenders of the world. Just because a female goes to the bar doesn't mean they need a male guardian. That is a really judge mental statement. It's more fun going without a man. No jealousy issues, No gawking at you wondering what your saying to someone. It's for entertainment and you have tons of fun!!! It's not for being serious it's for fun!

Once again, dear...

Yes, in an Eastern culture this behavior would be considered highly inappropriate.

However, We do not live in an Eastern culture, we live in the US...

Where you can walk the streets and go to the grocery store or church, or walk to school and not get blown to smithereens.

You're here now. It's safe.

And it is good to make an honest living, male or female.

Women here do not sit in Mama's house waiting for a man to arrive so they can start to live their lives. We're pretty much out the gate by 21 or 22 here.

I'm so sorry your culture has been so traumatized. I truly wish for peace on earth. I understand that where you come from horrible, horrible things happen on a daily basis. And it is wonderful that the men make an effort to protect their women. God bless all those people, struggling to just get through a normal day.

I think you'd get more positive responses if you let people know that where you come from folks get blown up daily. It would help with making the connection between your attitude and the life we experience here.

Hmmm... I'm surprised you'd say that because if you want a drink, you'd expect a woman to fix it for you. Now wouldn't that include being a bartender? I've actually considered going to bartender's school. I think it would be fun and it would be a fantastic backup plan if something happened to cause me to lose my job.

Also, it is a frequent occurrence when my female friends and I will get together at one of the local bars for some fun. I have never had any trouble that I couldn't handle. Besides, I'm a fantastic patron. I take care of the bartenders and bouncers and they take care of me. I know how the relationship works more than most who go to my bar.

I do not like the idea of bars at all. But since we have them, female bartenders will and do attract more customers then males, I believe. And I like the fact that when it comes to competition for bartenders there are females there. It's just like anything else, where if a male can do it, then so should and can a female.

All 'N' all, I really don't care. I do believe that it is unsafe in a bar, but that's for anyone, regardless of gender

A guardian to protect her? Protect her from what? Just the fact that she goes of her own free will to a bar or a club in the first place shows that she's in search of something...A good time, wants to dance, or wants to meet a loser. Whatever she seeks, it's her choice. What does she need a guardian for when there's a bouncer at the door and some guys who are interested in her who will be gentleman enough not to harm her or see her harmed?...What kind of bars do YOU go to? What's with all the outdated overkill of chivalry ya got going? Did you live a sheltered life? Maybe you should listen to a few T-Pain songs, especially that latest one about how he met the bartender and ended up dating/sleeping with/kickin' it with her....Get out of the Dark Ages dude.

I think it's a perfectly fine profession for a women. My female friends and I regularly go to a bar without male company! Don't see anything wrong with it at all!

I was a bartender for many years and made good money doing it. Up to $45/hr. at times. My daughter is a bartender and the other night she made almost $200 for a 6 hour shift. She has a baby to support and I had a family to support, so I don't see anything wrong with it.

You know Sandstorm, I'm betting a few of the nice folks here on P&S would be more than willing to pitch in some spare change and buy you a calendar. Welcome to the 21st century. Your style of thinking died with the Sufferagettes. Women have equal rights now, Constitutionally guaranteed rights. Now if you don't like the way we live here in the Western world, might I suggest moving to Iraq. I understand our soldiers are creating vacancies there everyday. Enjoy yourself.
