I got some links to download manga, and the file types are "rar." what is that and how do I open them? Do I need to download a program?

It's a file archive similar to "zip."

7-Zip is an open-source program (free) that can unpack .rar:
http://www.7-zip.org/

WinRar will do it as well, but WinRar costs money.

yea it is a file type that needs to be extracted using winrar
