Let's say the waitresses in your favorite restaurant go on strike for better wages, new uniforms and health insurance. The cooks already have these benefits, but they go out on strike, too, to apply more pressure to the owners in hopes of helping the waitresses achieve their goal. The cooks have gone out on sympatheric strike.
