How come everytime you see a commercial from any of the major pizza places they always show all the toppings on top of the cheese, but when you order it everything is buried under the cheese?

When they make commercials they hire food stylists to make the food look beautiful. They spray the tomatoes with water for salad commercials, paint turkeys with caramel color to make them look perfectly browned, and even rearrange the sesame seeds on burger buns to make them more symmetrical.
My guess is that they make the pizza look like that for TV so you can see the ingredients, and because it's "prettier," but in reality, it's easier for them to put the toppings under the cheese so they stay on the pizza.

i used to work at dominos and we always put the cheese on top of the sauce and below the toppings, unless you asked for extra cheese, then we put more cheese on top of everything. if i got a pizza that had toppings first with no cheese between the toppings and sauce, i would either send it back or never get one from that establishment again.

My sister used to be a "food dresser" for those photo shoots.
It just looks prettier with the cheese underneath-- but the local pizza makers don't care.

looks better for tv. just like the 3" thick subway sandwiches and the campbell's soup commercials with the bowls of chicken noodle soup with 6 cans worth of noodles. just trying to make the product look as good as possible.
