How do you think the oilers will do next season?
They got Souray ----- Sort of fills the hole of pronger
Pitkanen ----- Helps fill the hole of pronger
Penner ------ Young star to start scoring 30 goals (hope not a lupul)
And dont forget the draft picks for later on years.
Hope they do well

Realistically, it's going to be extremely difficult for Edmonton to make the playoffs. They play in the toughest division in the NHL, with Vancouver, Calgary, Minnesota (Gaborik's health is key), and Colorado (addition of Smyth, development of Budaj into a starter) all strong picks to make the playoffs. Don't forget that the Oilers play these teams 8 times a year. Then you've got Anaheim, San Jose, Detroit, Dallas also all strong bets to make the playoffs.
To be frank and completely honest with you, this situation is reminding me of Philadelphia last year. Clarke was desperate after his slow, old team tanked down the stretch the year before and he panicked to get some moves made, and eventually tried to pry away a speedy forward by the name of Ryan Kesler from Vancouver. Lowe has taken over the offer sheet donning for this year, and looks even more desperate; it seems as if he doesn't even care about all the future draft picks he is giving up, because chances are, he won't even be the GM then.
In conclusion, Lowe should have paid 5.5 a year to Smyth (a bargain in today's NHL), instead of overpaying in both assets and price for other teams' RFAs. Now, the Oilers are in deep trouble, and they're definately my pick to finish last in the NHL standings, because of the tough division they play in. Sorry, Oiler fans, but I would not be surprised if this is Lowe's last year as GM of the Oilers.
By the way, great point on the leadership issue. I like Jason Smith better than Pitkanen. Souray is an upgrade, but he can be a liability defensively. Penner is a good talent, but he was inconsistent last year. However, I really want to see him play with Hemsky. I think if they develop chemistry, Penner can score 40 goals with top line ice time and Hemsky can become an 80 point guy.

Good Team, No Playoffs! Sorry, If u get Good Players, Doesn't meen the team is great!!!!
In Baseball that works but the term teamwork doesn't really benefit! in Hockey, u need a lot of it and edmonton just got tons of new players to the roster! Last year they had the same team as 2006 but still failed to come up with wins! Heck st.louis did better!

Ummm your joking right?
Do you know how they got Penner?

I know they will be better with Sheldon Souray.
He had a career year last season, and cashed it in.
I wanted him in Columbus so bad.
