Why 1 week in KL? i think 3-4 days are enough since u said that you want to spend 2 weeks travelling AROUND malaysia..

after KL, u can go to Perak...from there u can travel up north to Penang, a must place to go in Malaysia besides KL...famous for its food..lots of food!..since u in the north..why not go to Langkawi Island in Kedah. famous for its duty free area.

Then u travel down to Terengganu / Kelantan..these places are famous for the beautiful beaches n malay cultural. Terengganu is my fave state in Malaysia. I can spend a week there..too many things to see n enjoy!

If you want to go to Sabah/Sarawak, u need to fly to reach there. If it's in ur budget, then...go!! but I suggest u to cover the peninsular first as it wont dig ur budget so much.

Other places i want you to experience is Melaka, our historic state.

Terengganu for only a couple of days? If you are coming here before late October (i.e. between late February and early Oct), go to the Perhentian Islands off the coast of Terengganu - toddler or not you will love the beaches there. Perhentian Besar is more quiet with less night life whereas Perhentian Kecil has more pubs, bars and restaurants that open late (it is more for backpackers with lots of budget accommodation).

Spend less time in KL I suggest, if you are just here for hols and not to visit family. Kelantan, there is nothing much though. I would say from Terengganu to Pahang, because there is the National Park Taman Negara there. However with a toddler I don't think you can go hiking to fully savor the outdoors there. So you could even decide to skip pahang. Unless you want to hit Club Med in Cherating - but if you already went to Perhentian, then Cherating beach is nothing compared to it.

I suggest you hop over to Sarawak for cultural sightseeing. Go to the cultural village in Sarawak's capital Kuching. A toddler is fine for you to visit the cultural village.

wow...all that in a couple of weeks..maybe you could narrow down your destination. like KL, langkawi island, or islands in terengganu then sabah..but then tagging along a 2-yo tot could be a bit difficult. so long as you know that from KL to sabah you need to take another plane...

welcome and good luck
