You got a beautiful male on your hands here
If you really care about him, please get him at least a 2.5 gallon tank with filter and heater
you can put any decorations in your tank as long as it doesn't have any sharp edgeds to it
Also what I have seen on mine, is that he loves to rest on his plant, it's a live one

Hope that helps
good luck

You have a beautiful fish there! As other people have been commenting, that the Betta is a male, it is, because it is more fancier and have longer fins, where the females are a bit more duller.
I think that you should probably get a bigger bowl. You don't need a filter or anything, I've had my Betta for about a month now without a filter or heater and only a light, and the little guy is doing great!
I also suggest that you get some fake plants, so he can hide if he wants, and maybe a ornament with a hole, so he can hide underneath it.
Other that that I think that you'll do just fine!

That is a male Beta. U can tell the difference between male and female by the way they look. The males have long pretty fins and the female has short fins. A Beta doesnt need a filter. Keep it in any kind of the lil tank that u can get from walmart or any pet store. Dont put it by a window the sun light isnt good for any fish tank at all and it makes the water temp to hot as well. Sun light breeds allergy in the tank and that takes oxygen out of the water.
Feed him once a day and only a lil pinch of food and it doesnt have to be that special betta food u see in the stores just feed it regular tropical fish flake food. Make sure nobody holds a mirror to the tank or he'll think its another beta and he'll attack himself and it will stress him out extemely bad and he could die from that. No he doesnt need a heater.

You have there a beautiful male betta...bettas really dont need a heater or filters or anything...they can pretty much be kept just like you have him..in a bowl...I mean of course...any fish would rather have a bigger space but bettas dont really need it. As long as you have good food for him and keep the bowl clean (which is easy when you feed him correctly) then he should be fine...you may want to get a little bigger bowl so you can get an ordamental plant or something for him. Good luck!

Ideally, you would want a filtered tank for a betta. Your male looks very healthy though. A 25w heater would also be a good investment. Feel free to email me with any specific questions.

I went to walmart and they have 1 gallon tanks In Omaha NE(if you live here)and you can buy them I have had my betta for 30 months and hes still going good. The males have the fancy tails and females are a little uglier. you have a male and you dont need anything for a bowl.

Well i have had around 3 betas and the way you can tell if it is a female or male is by looking at his/her tail.If it is big and more colorful its a male. And if its tale is smaller and less colorful it means its a female.Try that and if after that you are not sure take him to vet.
