I have never, in all my experience, seen a truly "insane" person recognize their insanity. Actually, insane is now a word abandoned by psychologists & psychiatrists, although it's still used legally to refer to someone who is so mentally disturbed as to be unable to distinguish morally between right & wrong. Psychotic (often used) describes someone who exhibits a total break with, or withdrawal from reality. A psychopath is a more aggressive psychosis, often vicious or brutal. A sociopath has virtually no conscience. Do you think these conditions would invite self examination & definition? Believe me, they don't.

I am not sure what insane is.
I read about people who kill other people, then run away before the cops get there. Then they go to court and their lawyer tells the jude that they are 'Insane." They did not know what they were doing. If this true, why do they run away?

I've known the severely mentally ill. Normally it is the ones who are not committed that know they are insane. But they sometimes don't care, depending on whether or not it is convenient for themselves. The ones who can no longer function have lost touch and don't know anymore. They like to say that "everyone ELSE is crazy".

they know they are insane....
what they don't know is what insane is. sane i suppose is having the same views/mentality as most people. and they will probably realize this isn't them, and that so they are "insane".
but you cant put mentality's in boxes, its to wide a subject. they are trying to define emotion which is pretty infinite and impossible
but if we didn't try and understand and define what the hell would we do? lol not allot. we do the best we can with what we have. its what humans do best..
we will all float on alright...

They know they are. I have a lady who works in my company who is Schizophrenic & Bipolar and knows it. Also, "insane" is a very loose and meaningless term..These psychiatric disorders are very differently manifested...
