we could, but that would require people being compassionate by nature, instead of ambitious and selfish.

That pretty much goes against all the laws of nature. If you ever watch nature shows or live in a rural area you'd see that all animals are greedy and selfish and will kill each other in order to get what they want. That's just the way it is.

As humans we like to think we're different and more compassionate - and in many ways we are - but to expect everyone to be peaceful and generous is asking too much.

Nevertheless, that's no reason not to keep trying to do good wherever we can. Just think how bad it would be if everyone were as hateful and evil as the murdering thugs we're battling around the world right now.

Out of the billions of people around the world, there are people who do their part just to make our place a better place to live in. No matter how wealthy a country is it cannot be done alone. Tremendous effort and commitment among everyone of us must be solicited. Herculean task it may be but the intention is always there some sectors of humans are always in close watch of the Mother Earth. Let us hope and pray indeed in the near future someone or in generations to come there will be boy telling -- We made it! Our earth is safe for everyone to livre.

Yes, we could, but probably won't. People are just too busy with their lives, getting as much as they can and not really worrying about others. Most people figure if the give to the Red Cross or the United Way, whatever, they are helping the needy, but these organizations are greedier than King Midas and most of the money never gets to the needy.
Everyone needs to clean up their own backyard (weeds, of course, but also recycle, reuse; cut WASTE, and otherwise reduce pollution), help people who need help (directly or through a church or club) and just resolve to be polite to everyone.

We can make the world better by trying to end the injustice that goes on here. We can each work to our means to end world suffering, and if we each did, the world community would flourish.

Maybe, but would we be able to stop the wars in iraq and undo all the damage we humans have inflicted on eachother over the last 40,000 years????!!!! There are always people who want to create trouble and we can't tell people what to do if they don't want to listen, can we?
