its...being an original thinker, non-linear thinking, being somewhat artistic and building better mousetraps. Not being one of the crowd, but having original avante' guard thoughts and solutions that break the mold of traditional thinking.

Outside the box problem solving is thinking beyond the obvious. Its what little kids do before they know better.

"Thinking outside the box" means looking at a situation, problem or task from an angle other than the traditional manner.
Being bold and innovative and doing something in a completely different way.

coming up with different solutions outside the normal way of thinking... the box is a metaphor for people's boundaries... you want to break outside that box

it's approaching a problem from an unusual or uncommon way...like if you were trying to fit a square peg into a round hole...would you try to keep jamming it in there or cut the peg to fit the hole, or cut the hole to fit the peg...i think...the previous may not be a good example though.
