You could also visit www.cartalk.com and look for their list of honest, competent and inexpensive repair shops. Just click "Actual Car Information", scroll down to Mechanic's Files, and then look for "Find a Mechanic". They've got a list of 16,000 mechanics across the entire country; you should be able to find one in your area!

just ask as many local folks as you can... once you get some multiple good replies naming the same shop go check them out
