I am an apartment manager and have held two yard sales in my complex. There aren't any rules per say, just make sure you don't leave a mess when you shut down. Put your sale where there is ample and safe parking away from assigned parking.
The best way is get as many apartments involved as possible then put an ad in the paper as a community sale. That way you will get a ton of people.
But do ask your manager first as a courtesy. Maybe the manager can help you plan a community sale.
One thing, if you do a community sale, make sure firsthand that it's understood you won't man someone else's table. What a nightmare that can be!!
good luck!

There aren't some national global rules on this. The apartment complex might have some though - check your lease, or talk to the manager.
