It would be nice to get someone, not a "stranger" to do some grocery shopping for me, check my mail/newspaper deliveries, do recycling, some cleaning (minus mopping floors and cleaning my windows). Any suggestions/ideas?

the most trustworthy strangers i've ever met are Mormans. If you dont' know any then church is good. If that doesn't work lock up everything valuable and just pay someone to come over for a few hours a day...clean up, do chores or whatever. As long as you don't leave anything out worth stealing you'll probably be ok.

First and foremost ask one of your friends or family and be sure to set rules on what they can and can't do while you're away. If you don't fancy that then there are many house-sitting services but availability might depend on your location. These people basically live in your house for the time that you are away and do all the things you want them to do: clean, look after your pets etc.
As they are from a company, you can be rest assured that they are trustworthy. If not they are liable to sueing.
The only hang up with this is that the prices are usually quite high.

I would call a local church and ask the pastor for a recommendation. There are stay-at-home moms who would love to do something like that.

If you aren't interested in calling a church, call a local high school and talk to a guidance counselor, tell them that you want a trustworthy teen, then I would talk to the parents as well.

Even though you don't mention having a pet, you can try petsit.com. They have a pet sitter locator (by zip code), and many members will be happy to do the tasks you require. Not only that, but they are bonded and insured, too.

A good friend or a family member. I would make sure if it was a friend or someone trustworthy. You can ask if they would like to earn some extra cash while your on vacation.

Why would you need groceries when you aren't home? And why are you asking here? Nothing but strangers here. You sound wacky.

You might want to check out craigslist in your area. They usually have teenagers who would be willing to do those things for you. I know they are strangers but, you never know.

Look up house sitters in the yellow pages, ask someone you trust in the neighborhood. If you belong to a church, maybe they can recommend someone. Ask around.

if you go to a church ask someone there, they will more than likely be trustworthy. Otherwise try a relative.
