If you're close to delivery time you'll get practice contractions that don't really dilate your cervix. They come and go and don't get closer together like real contractions would. The only way to know for sure that you're dilating is a bloody show and being examined by a nurse or doctor who can tell you. One of my nieces walked around dilated to 4 for a few days not knowing she was in labor until she finally went to the hospital and the baby was born 30 minutes later! She also had one in the car. Some women can tell, but most of the time you can't really know for sure unless you get examined.

No, you can't feel yourself dilate. You can feel your uterus preparing itself for labor in the form of Braxton Hicks contractions (false labor) How far along are you? Is the pain like a cramping pain? Or is it like a stabbing pain? Cramping is normal, stabbing pain is not.

Even when you're in real labor you shouldn't be in so much pain you have to be in bed, unless you're in transition or close to it.

Call your doctor, just to be safe

Good Luck!

Your changing cervix feels like period cramps.
