Unless your pinkish skin tone is more extreme than you describe, you will look good in quite a few red lip colors including true red, most burgundy reds, orange reds that are not too yellow, and brownish reds that are not too muddy. Don't stick with just one color; try a number of them to match or complement your clothes and nails or to suit your mood. Go as light or dark as you feel like, but do keep your blush in the same general color family. The texture of your lipstick including the shine, the way it feels on you, and how long it lasts are also important.

Most of the lipsticks that I wear are Revlon including "Certainly Red" (a medium true red with some blue undertones), "Blackberry" (a medium-to-dark burgundy), and "Hot Coral" (a light-to-medium orange red). "Certainly Red" and "Blackberry" have been around for decades and used to be a lot darker than they are now. Around 1988 or so, the FDA banned a number of F&D red dyes, and this resulted in some of my traditional lipsticks becoming lighter and less long-lasting. I have also noticed that many of the newer shades are a lot more neutral.

When choosing a lip color, be advised that the "clear" top on Revlon and many other brands of lipstick can distort both the hue and intensity of the color. The store lighting and some cosmetics display lighting arrangements are even worse. I have chosen "hot" new colors, brought them home, and then found out that they are much too tame for my image. For girls seeking the "no mouth" look, that is not an issue.

You can also modify the same lip color by wearing another color over or under it and by using different lip liners. I wear "Blackberry" with a dark plum or medium wine lip liner, and I wear "Hot Coral" with a red or brown lip liner to vary the basic color a bit. Use these suggestions only as a starting point for your own experiments and HAVE FUN!

Find something with a blue or purple undertone...it will complement your skin nicely.
