We are unique in the animal kingdom when it comes to choosing a mate. Most lower forms of life act on instinct and natural selection as opposed to human interactions as such. As to a Higher Power who can say with any degree of certainty ?

All other animals / species are just like humans because we have the same father / creator. We are all made of the same material as God made man, and we breathe the same air, and have the same life force within us, the same spark that makes us alive. Humans think they are different, but if you observe closely, the other animals have the same love for each other as humans do. (and the same kind of enmity too).
However, God did not find a wife for Adam. He created Eve out of Adam's rib, thereby giving Adam a twin sister (a person cloned from another, with the same DNA).

I think God uses animals to propagate their species but in order for that to happen he matches them up like he does with us to find our mate. When it comes to true love I believe that God does pair us up for the sake of family and soul. I don't believe fish have true loves or reptiles but are paired up to mate. So, I think we are led by God to find true love and to mate but animals are paired up for the sake of coming together to raise young and experience life from the aspect of their animal nature not entirely for love but for the sake of keeping a part of God alive on Earth in the form of them.

I'm not sure about god's role in all of it, but Prairie Voles mate for life. It's less love and more hormones, but definitely interesting to read about...
