It sounds as if the four wheel drive is partially engaged. I get a rattle and a clunking noise from the front differential and noise from the transfer case. Sometimes when you engage 4wd it stops. It seems like the faster you go the noise eases up alot. Could it be a vacuum problem?

You know you gota drive backward for 100 feet, after you go from 4 to 2 wheel to disengage the hubs???

I had the same problem you bottem out or hit something with your under cerage and bent a crose member that is now rubing on one of your U-joints.

The vacum chamber you speak of is on the transfer case.
Now either it has a hole in the hose or that matter could be linkage adjustment.
