I'm car shopping i recently found a Chrysler that i wanted to purchase and the seller told me it makes noises when turning, due to the "strut springs". She said that the springs turn when you turn the car and reset and make a clunking sound when straightening out. Is this a common problem with Chryslers like the seller said or does it sound a little fishy? If it is a common problem will it create any real problems for the car in the future?

that is known as the upper strut bearing. It is not uncommon for them to go bad. If it's not a popping sound...as in turning and it goes pop pop pop....that would be the axles going bad...if it does it when sitting still...and turning the wheel then it's the strut bearings. If it only does it when moving then it's the axles. The strut bearing you can't see the damage as it is an enclosed bearing....however you can stand outside the car and have someone turn the wheel and you will hear the noise.

As I said...if it only does it when the car is moving...it's the axles not the bearing...neither are unusual though.

Good luck

well it is a common problem with any front wheel drive vehicle. what would make more sense is if the strut plates/bearings were causing this problem. this is what the spring rotates with on top. these do go bad and they will make noise. if not replaced it could cause a problem in the future. take it to a mechaninc and ask him to listen and if he agrees to the strut plate problem ask him how much to fix and go from there

that is a common problem with those but its not a very expensive repair to make, and when you buy the new parts to fix it they will out last the car,the factory strut bearings did have a problem with them but the replacements from any parts store will stop this, and you,ll have a good car,it wont hurt it to drive it like this, but the popping will get louder, and sooner or later you,ll have to get it fixed, good luck on it.
