Ok guys,

let's step it up a notch

what do you think
should be changed
about yourself,
the society
and the perception of sex
that would make this act
socialy acceptable
as a fulfilment of a biologic need ,
equal to eating and drinking

Ladies & gentlemen

There are 2 kinds of answers that totaly missed the point of my question.

This is not a call for sex in public ( !! )
nor it is a comic relief ( !! )

it's a PHYLOSOPHY OF SEX question that seeks to dissect the social interpretation & the ethics of copulation

Sadly, most of the answers have commented on the question rather than tried to truely adress the issue

waiting for further analysis & more replies

Taboos are about secrecy. Take the net and yahoo answers for example. Human tendencies are to fulfil certain needs in anonymity. The things that people say on yahoo answers are in many cases things they would never say face to face with family or friends but can comfortably espouse to strangers.

Sex in public could only become culturally and socially acceptable if there was another major taboo that took over from sex. For example, if eating in public became socially abhorent and was only acceptable in private.

Now for eating in public to be repulsive to us it would most likely have to result from mass poisonings of food where only preparation in the privacy and safety of our homes could ensure pure food that didn't sicken or kill us.

The taboos about sex are most often connected with shame, so perhaps if other things that people did became so shameful that sex was let off the hook, perhaps then it would be acceptable in public.

The other thing that would prevent this of course is the issue of vulnerability. Having sex in public and being enamoured or embroiled in the act leaves us unaware of what is happening around us and that is a public safety issue.

So, no I can't see it happening any time soon.

I once argued to my future future wife and future ex-wife that it should be perfectly o.k. for people to have sex in public. I still hold to that idea, since it's nobody's business what anyone else does. But I think society has built in some sort of fears around that sort of behavior. And I think that it as always has something to do with the survival of a culture or people. And many cultures seem to agree on this law/rule against it, but that doesn't make it correct. It only makes it a majority opinion that can be enforced.

Lots of laws or ideas about behaviour have come and gone. I think many ideas about sexual things have gotten a bit looser over the past 50 years in western society. And I think it's good. But my views are probably not popular..........at least not yet.

I would not have sex in public unless it was comfortable. And I don't mean comfortable in the sense of pillows. I mean, if I felt like it was accepted. I am not much different than most people. I would talk more in elevators if everyone else was doing it or if I didn't get weird looks when I do it. And that IS one thing that I do anyway, regardless of what people think, because it's not in the realm of sexual taboos. It's only in the realm of white people's ideas about being quiet around other people. (I might be incorrect in assuming that it's a white people's rule only.)

The prevailing concept for sex is now a corrupt mythology of human interaction. Mostly, I believe, because of the media portrayal of 'free sex'. The time of men and women enjoying sexual contact through close ties (marriage or engagements) is now promiscuous pleasure. The need and sexual drive will always be there, but now humans are lowering themselves to the status of animals. Have you seen dogs, cats and horses copulate in public view? They don't care about having an audience.

my husband and I were dining in a very luxurious restaurant with long table cloths..... OR if we were on a very long bus ride and the bus broke down and it was late at night.... OR if we were on a sailboat anchored a few hundred yards off the docks of a ritzy yacht club.... OR if we arrived late at our hotel and they had lost our confirmed reservations and the hotel had a nice comfy lobby with plush couches. OK Just kidding! I would NOT have sex in public because I am already 55 years old and my husband is 72 and no one else would be entertained by our love making. Also we're quite private people. I would have sex in public only in my fantasy.

In a society obsessed by looks I don't see anyone truly enjoying sex as a public past time. Even the so called porn videos can't be enjoying what they do it with a director and producer yelling "cut, we need to do that ejaculation again from a better camera angle".
I would need to enjoy it and I enjoy sex not in public so why would I need to go public?

if the word public is cancelled from the planet and privacy is the controller, cause sex is something sacred should be done away from people's eyes. why do you think emotions are in the heart because heart is private.

also, it got a moral part, i don't think that adults nor children will like the idea of watching 2 people having sex in public, it's like a "sight pollution".

plus we're not animals, people got brains and minds in order to be able enough to control their desires whether sexual or not...

ok it's your turn now, you will have sex in public if???

The bible says the act of intercourse is for one purpose alone. Procreation. Survival of the species. Our ancestors never had any issue with the act of procreation in public. The thought of it being perverted or unnatural was never even considered.
Human beings have distorted the FACTS and turned sex into a means of pleasure... Society has changed and our views on sex have become jaded and impure.. When did this happen? Can't honestly answer that question, but the bottom line is... Sex will never again be accepted in a public forum.
I like the fact that it is this way though. Whether the act be for the means of creation or for the means of pleasure, it is one I would like to keep in the privacy of my own home.

that's what society could do a million) call the police. 2) men could sit down and stare whilst women talked approximately as the police. 3) counting on the appearance of the folk in touch, some could sit down and stare. that's the ridiculously unjust international of today - Homophobic and biased. men run on organic hormones, hence that's considered as extra ok for women to be homo than men simply by fact men like it? :P NO. not honest. i could call the police in any concern.

Mankind is too concerned with morality to act as freely as our animal instincts dictate. We attempt to 'control' natural urges and create stressful situations of 'unnatural' behavior. Laws prohibit what nature does not.
