Next for intel would be " Penryn " a die shrink of the current 65nm to 45nm and new instruction sets SSE4 and larger L2 Cache from 4MB to 6MB dual core and 8MB to 12MB quad core which are due out Q4 2007 or Q1 2008

AMD at the same time is releasing there new dual core and quad core chips Phenom which is supposedly faster than Penryn but no benchmarks are released as of yet

But at the end of 2008 Intel is releasing a new chip code name " Nehalem" which is a whole new architecture and intel will have there own version of Hypertransport called CSI( Common System Interface with an intergrated memory controller and should outperform hypertransport and there might be an 8 core version of the chip too

no other info on amd processors after K10 or Phenom but at the end of 2009 intel will shrink again to 32nm

I've always been a Mac guy, so I don't pretend to know a lot about Intel or AMD prcessors, but since Apple swiched to Intel, I can honestly say I think Intel is on the right track. The Core 2 Duo and Dual Core Xeon processors are amazing and VERY fast. 2 years ago I would have supported AMD, but now I really don't think AMD has anything better than Intel.
