Ouija Boards are sold as parlor games and have no powers, despite what the other answerer's may believe. It is actually a heart shaped piece of plastic with a hole in the center so that you may view the letters on the board. It has 3 "feet" on the bottom so it sits up from the board. It'd be difficult to make one from scratch. You can probably pick up a used one on e-bay.
Scientific studies have shown that when the participants are blindfolded, the Ouija Board spells out gibberish. If spirits were really controlling the planchette, this would not occur. Also if people were possessed by demons or died after using one, I doubt very seriously that Parker Brothers would still be in business.
Don't these people know how to use snopes.com to debunk myths and rubbish?

You can use a whisky shot glass, but you'd better know how to protect yourself from the resulting vortex. Do you know how to put an 'iris' over the gate? If not, DON'T DO IT.
The Ouija board is a psyonic device. Modern science doesn't really believe in psychic energies, so it's not surprising that Snopes is going to call it rubbish.

Use a wine grass; turn it upside down and do your thing. Beware; the ouija board is not a toy; I know, I have experience with one for many years.

You can believe all the negative stories for many of them are true... the Ouija is not a toy.. I don't care one rats hair about those that have said they did not have any problems when they played with one for they should be very happy that nothing went wrong because they did not do something right... The Ouija should never be played with or thought of as a toy...............................................................................

Here's a site that tells you how to make one. As far as good/bad stuff it all depends on your beliefs. Just know what you are doing before just making one and jumping into playing with it.

You don't.
They can bring in some serious bad energy's its like the simplest way to achieve communication with bad spirits. If you want to communicate with spirits research safer alternatives. And be sure to alway protect yourself before doing any work with spirits.
