Huge problem with Vaio PCG-FXA47?

Question

My fairly old Sony Vaio PCG-FXA47, will not power on. If i press the power button, nothing happens on the screen, but the power lights go on, only until i take my finger off it. The screen stays pitch black, and no fans go on, etc, it doesnt turn on. Also, I charged it all night, and still the same problem. Please help, what can possibly be wrong with it? How do I fix it? Suggestions?

EDIT-It has the same problem when plugged in.

you don't say if it will power on with the power adapter, if it does and won't with the battery then your battery isn't any good,you need a new battery
