Yes, I think that it is a major problem around the World...
REPUBLICAN AND PROUD...It seems like both of us had the same upbringing....I salute your Parents for raising you..
When I was younger, I was taught to use Parents and people who work in occupations that protect America and its Citizens as Idols...I was also taught to idolize the Astronauts at NASA because they represented exploring New Worlds and Ideas for all Mankind...
These days, kids are taught to idolize Hollywood and Musicians....They are both "partially" responsible for the Decay of Children & Society today....

Yes.
But, why would a child want to admire a politician? A police officer, yes, - if he is clean and not full of ego. A fireman, too, as long as he doesn't set fires. You see, everyone is a human being and so are the players, singers and actors.
There is nothing wrong with a kid idolizing others, they just need to understand that they have their own qualities and have to work at it.
All children can be whatever they want to be in great ol' America. Right?

Once upon a time there was nothing wrong with idolizing some of these people, times have changed and have gotten worse, many of these people do not live up to the a good image, rather they decide to do the opposite and go against ALL rules. The parents are the foundation of kids lives, and if they do not have it together the out come might not be to good

I am 100% with you on this. However part of the reason this is happening is that adults convey, through words and actions, that the only ideal in America is the creation of great personal wealth... so it is natural for the kids to be attracted to professions that promise that.
Of course, it's all absurd. In all the professions you mention, there are only a small number of people who actually make a living. 99.9 percent of musicians can't even find a gig these days. Same is true of actors and actresses. There's money in sports, but a limited number of teams, and always a limited number of openings in a season. So really, following these professions for money is going to be a bust for the overwhelming majority of kids.
But hey, dad spend all day Sunday watching men in spandex, Mom spends half her free time gossiping about celebrities... and neither mom or dad spend much time talking to the kid about the realities of life, or the value of contributing to society, rather than just longing for personal super-wealth.

Yes, but it's the parents job, not the state, not the school, and especially not the governments place to teach children basic values. Parents are falling down on the job, all for the 2 SUV's in every driveway, bigger homes, DVD, TV's, Computers in every room, eating out 5 nights a week quest for success. The kids are paying the price.

Yes I do think it is a problem because most people wont be succesful sports players, singers and etc. Most of these kids wont even be rich. I think it will blow over because kids will be kids and they will eventually lose interest. Instead in 10 years they will probably say remember when I dressed like Snoop Dog and I looked stupid. Most actors are moving on in years anyway and their lives are normalizing.

Uh, you'd prefer idolizing a POLITICIAN?! What tainted sports drink have YOU been sipping? I've seen plenty of kids want to be firemen, railroad engineers, etc. NEVER a politician. I can't even IMAGINE wanting to emulate a politician ( well, lets see - free postage, free travel, sycophants, lobbist-paid trips, young interns, hmm...ok, I'm starting to see your point now!! ), normally. heh heh!

I think it's a problem if they idolize politicians.
How do you know when a politician is lying?
His lips are moving.

Yes I do, I think as fellow Americans we need to idiolize Jesus more. Al Gore just talks about nonsese and he is an actor because he is in a movie. I don't idiolize him because he talks about nonsese and haphoey. I idolize Jesus because that is my hero.
