The smoke hurts the baby from day one. When the mother breathes it in (second hand or from a cigarette), it lowers the amount of oxygen she is getting, and thus the amount of oxygen the baby gets. Between that and all the dangerous chemicals in the smoke, it's horrible for the unborn baby. Bottom line - cigarette smoke is bad for everyone, all the time. No exceptions.

your brother was misinformed because cig smoke either inhaled or second hand is terrible for baby and cause many problems including premature birth. It is harmful to the development of the baby from conception to after born!

Cigarette smoke will hurt the baby no matter how far along she is. It causes low birthweight and birth defects-it says it right on the side of the pack-DUH! People like that really bother me.

Who's smoking? Your brother or his fiance? Second hand smoke should have no significant impact on the baby until it is born. However, the mother-to-be's smoking would impact the baby from the moment of conception.

Of course he's not right. Cigarette smoke has been hurting the baby, his wife, and his son. It can even hurt his sperm.
