One of the main problems that Bush/US military are having in Iraq is they don't have nearly enough US troops to win. They've got enough for a good stalemate but they need about 300,000 extra troops to actually win.

Since most of the US military is made up of poor Americans, they don't need to be drafted, but I know their are plenty of wealthier patriotic American dying to get the chance to serve their country. Or might wealthier Americans think that winning the war on terror isn't worth risking their lives?

I think, regardless of wealth, or lack of, every able-bodied young man should serve at least two years in the military. My cousin just finished Army Boot Camp, then Paratrooper training, he gets home tommorow. He says he has never felt more fulfilled and complete.

You need to get some facts. When is 50K rich? What ages do you propose?. Do you know there is no draft? Do you know when there is a draft, you will likely be eligible. ( Although I'd bet you'd leave the country)

How many "wealthy" Americans have already been in the services? It is not the Bush military. It is the United Sates Military. Where did you take your military tactics training and what branch did you serve in?

If a draft is imposed, annual income plays no part of it. i can hardly think that only the po folks enlist in the military. I have a Uncle that is well worth over five million dollars, and not only himself, when he was younger, but all three of his sons joined the military, along with one of his daughters. His children are in Iraq , right now. Draft dodgers , is what makes me sick.
If the Democrats would stop pandering to terrorist, this could have been over. It will not take that many more troops, really think the Military puts all their eggs in one basket, all the troops in one war. No, they do not.

Just what we need: instituting a draft targeted against a certain class of our fellow citizens who are not voluntarily doing what we think they should be doing. Maybe we should see whether Devil's Island is for sale so that we could station our punishment battalions there.

Targeting disfavored classes with a punitive military draft that applies to them alone, analogous to what we've been doing to certain disfavored industries such as the tobacco industry, is an easy way to blow up our country by destroying whatever cohesion and unity of purpose we have left. Brilliant.

1) You are confused about this "war": We won the war in Iraq. Saddam is dead. We are now fighting a battle in Iraq against terrorism, an ongoing conflict that cannot be won, but like fighting disease, the alternative is to lie down and die. No, thank you.

2) You actually support such a one-sided draft? I can think of few things that would be more unAmerican.

3) You suggestion reveals a hatred of the rich. I strongly suggest you examine what happens in countries where successful people are driven out by socialism. It's not pretty. Rich people leave, jobs leave, government tries to keep them by force, businesses go out of business, government nationalizes business, free enterprise disappears, standard of living goes down every time.

Great future.

Thank you, again, NO!

Having the draft contingent upon the income level is not legal.

Equal protection under the law clause of the Constitution.

If you think that being smart enough to be able to make a good income is wrong... get back in your 1954 travel trailer and try to make the plumbing work.

Brilliant thinking and proof that you know absolutely nothing about economics. You'd be drafting a large portion of the people who pay taxes to keep YOU going.

Just so you know. I have MANY friends who serve in the military and they don't consider themselves poor. They like what they're doing and have volunteered to serve their country. :)

Public school system?

1-50,000 p/year is not wealthy
2-anyone whose 'dying' to fight is already there. drafting these people would be a little silly.
3-that one has to be fighting in hand to hand combat as the only way to show their support is totally ridiculous. thats like saying anyone who supports suppressing violent criminals ought to become a corrections officer.
4-i didnt support the war in Iraq, I dont support an irresponsible pull out, and i dont support a draft.

most of the military is not poor. and since when is $50,000 or more wealthy?

"I think, regardless of wealth, or lack of, every able-bodied young man should serve at least two years in the military. My cousin just finished Army Boot Camp, then Paratrooper training, he gets home tommorow. He says he has never felt more fulfilled and complete." - so we'd get the same quality of people in our military as we get in our public schools - no thank you.
