First, you will want to read up on starting an aquarium, I'll give you a link at the bottom of the page that will help you out.
The best way to start off with a betta is in a 2.5 gallon filtered and heated aquarium. Both you and your fish will be very glad you did!

That's great that you want to get a Betta Fish, and they are also really easy to handle. All you'll need are:
1.) a Bowl or a Tank (1.5 -2.5 gallons)
2.) Brightly colored gravel (it perks your Betta up)
3.) Betta Pellets (They prefer them more over flakes)
4.) Fake or live plants (small ones)
5.) A home for him, so he can have some privacy. :]
6.) Water Conditioner
7.) Most importantly A Betta Fish
Before you get your Betta make sure that you have the tank set up and ready for him, also have the water age for about one day. Then when you get your Betta let the bag bob around the tank for about 30 to 40 minutes the people at the pet store say about 10-15 but you can never be more safe than sorry! You're all set! I hope you and your Betta have fun! :]

If you buy a fish from a breeder, it will cost more, but is guaranteed to be healthy. A fish from a store is a little iffy, you should really study various fish diseases and when you get to the store, pick out two or three you like and study them each really hard to see if they have any signs of diseases like Finrot, popeye, dropsy, velvet, bloat, swim bladder disease, etc. Dropsy and velvet are extremely fatal, so you should really focus on these two. You should also adopt this "scope out" plan. Visit the store every day for a week if you can afford the time. see how often the bowls look newly cleaned out, if the bowls are not cleaned out at least 2-3 times in the week, I would seriously reconsider buying from that store as the fish are living in poor conditions and may be sick without showing symptoms. Don't be afraid to ask the workers questions such as "how often do you feed?" "what do you feed them?" What kind of water conditioner do you use?" "are they being medicated for anything and why are they being medicated?" I would not ask care questions unless the help seems very knowledgable and don't follow the advise unless you can back it up with another info. resource. Pet store help is most often just hired without any training other than "clean this and feed that" they may tell you their opinion, give you outdated advise, or worse, even just 'guess' an answer.

What you'll need:
a fish bowl (or tank)
water dechlorinator
beta food
aquarium gravel (not absolutely necessary)
decorations or plastic plants (also not necessary)
a filter if you want to keep the bowl clean longer
Fill the bowl or tank with water, then put the directed amount on the bottle of water dechlorinator in the water. Then dump in some clean aquarium gravel (though it's not necessary, it's nice to have). Then if you want one, get a filter (I got my 1-5 gallon one at Walmart for about $5) and that will keep the bowl cleaner a lot longer. If you don't have a filter, the water usually gets dirty in about 4 - 5 days, so be prepared to clean it. You could also buy some aquarium decorations or fake plants, but you don't have to. And another thing, DON'T get your betta from Walmart, sometimes they are sick and carry diseases. Also, don't put two males together because they will fight and eventually the stronger one will kill the other one. Good luck with your betta, they're fun!

I have two bettas. I keep them in about a one gallon tank I actually bought at WalMart. It comes with a bubbler and light. I was told by the pet store they don't even need that. I don't even use any water conditioners or anything. I buy spring water and change the tank with that at room temp. my fish are doing great! Had them for over a year. Of course they have seperate tanks. I think you should go buy one!! Sounds like you are doing a great job!

Hey there. There are a lot of great Betta sites on the Web that will help you:
http://www.bettatalk.com
and
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/planted-nano-tanks/47320-betta-amano-shrimp-bad-idea.html#post422214
are good places to start.
Oh, and for some amazing eye candy, check out http://www.aquabid.com - there are some *spectacular* fish up for sale there. Check out the Crowntails and HalfMoons! But you don't have to spend $40 and have a fish sent from Thailand to get a spectacular fish. I got a beautiful halfmoon from Petco - you just need to stop by often to see what they have.
Good luck, Bettas are really fun and so beautiful.

You don't even need a filter.
I used to keep them and I'd usually just put them in a large flower vase. Of course you need water conditioner, otherwise the chlorine will kill them.
But the best part about owning a Betta is how easy they are to care for. I've had them live to be about 5 years old and once they're full grown they're beautiful.
As far as a heater, I live in Florida so it's never been necessary.

What help did you need, sweetie?
Definitely get one, they make excellent pets as long as you can provide what they need.
Look at this site:
www.bettysplendens.com
Lots of good info, but she doesn't breed anymore.
aquabid.com
bettacave.com
All have AMAZING bettas. My jaw actually drops at some of the amazing fish being bred right now.

not sure what you are asking help for but...go to your local pet store or fish store and ask someone that works there to help you pick out everything you will need for the fish. They will tell you everything you need. Don't forget to pick out a fish!
