Depends on how long I'd be there. If it was permanent, and I knew I had the room in the new place, I'd probably bite the bullet and pay to have as much of the stuff as I could shipped there. The reason is, selling what I have, and buying new on the other end would cost more than shipping it.
If I knew I was coming back in a year or so, I'd probably put whatever I didn't need into storage for the year.
Option C is a low-class cop-out that only a lazy slob would try. Don't do it.

a. Yes. We moved across town recently and didn't want to make more than one trip, because we're lazy. We fit it all into one Ryder truck, which I would suggest against U-Haul any day.
b. No, I wouldn't HAVE to, but I'd sure like to. I hate packing and hauling and all that crap that comes along with moving.
c. Probably. We tend to take too long when we load up to move, so we always end up doing the late night run to the new place. In my last apartment, we left behind three garbage bags of Goodwill clothes that we never had a chance to donate.

Since it wouldn't all fit in a U-Haul , I would put it all on a truck ; have a yard sale for the things I didn't want to take with me , and drive the delicate stuff across with me .

Option a for me. I really won't be able to fit all my stuff in a u-haul truck, but I'd happily sell most of it, and have much less to move. Then option a would work, and I'd have some extra cash.

I've moved across country three times, and I've always managed to fit it all in a UHaul truck after putting a big FREE sign in my front yard with the stuff I didn't want to take with me.
U-Haul is very very expensive though, you should estimate the value of your stuff and compare it to the price of a uhaul + fuel before you make a choice.
Movers are expensive too, I wouldn't reccomend using them unless they are referred to you by someone you trust.

Wow...we just did that...moving that is....not across the country, but about 450 miles away.
Everything would have fit in a single U-Haul, had we rented one...instead we rented a trailer and it didn't all fit...had to make two trips...but that is OK..we were going back anyway!

I would have to go with a.) because I would get rid of alot of stuff, its funner to start over, and if your going half way across the country then you probably want to start over anyway. So id leave alot of belongings behind along with the city.

A
or just bring your most needed items with you in the car, store the rest of your belongings in a unit, and then 6 months later (when everything has hopefully settled) then go back and bring the rest of the stuff

I'd probably be able to fit everything I own into my Blazer and a U-Haul trailer that hitches onto the back, I don't have much.
