We knew my first son was not going to live, because he had anencephaly which is a form of spina bifida in which the person is born missing the top of their head and most of their brain. It is 100% fatal. We purposefully gave him the initials OAK (in fact, I started with figuring out his initials when I sat down to name him, instead of starting with his name). This was to symbolize that though his body was gone, his memory would live on forever in our hearts and minds. We gave him the first name Orion because it was the first constellation I learned to find on my own and I wanted to have something to look to when I was thinking of him or missing him. We gave him the middle name Allon. This was another reference to his living forever (it means oak).
