Great question! That's what I'd like to know. When Bush set out after 9/11 he said that it was to capture Bin Laden. And now, when a Democrat says it, they whine. So I have to surmise that as long as a Republican says it then it's OK with them. Obviously, a lot of them can't think for themselves and just follow.

Pakistan much like Saudi Arabia is one of those countries that have special privileges in this war on terror. The majority of the hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis, early reports indicated the Pakistani intelligence service directly payed the leader of the 9/11 hijackers. These were later covered up to not embarrass an ally or worse?
Yet America invaded Afghanistan(which made sense considering the Taliban presence and their tolerance of al quaida) and Iraq.

It is because Musurraf (sp) is in a politically shaky spot and sending U.S. forces into Pakistan will further destabilize his position. Remember, Pakistan has nuclear weapons and there are a lot of Pakistani government insiders who favor al Queda and the Taliban. If Musurraf should be deposed or killed the next leader may be less friendly with the U.S. and more friendly with al Queda who would very much like to have access to those nuclear weapons.

Pakistan has a huge population (bigger than Russia) and if we invaded them there would be a big resistence and a war with the government of Pakistan pluys a ton of other countries.

It would also make us look bad to other nations and they would sanction us and we might have an economic depression.

It is better to have diplomacy than ear.

The problem there is Pakistan itself, we should have taken over that country first, but the Pakistani government is as corrupt as any over there, so he hides well and is well informed of any operation against him, as we are not allowed to operate there, we get shot at by the pakistani border guards when we get to close to the border, so for the oppostion here, we are trying to use money to get people to turn thim in, I think its up to 50 million, right now, so you would think that with all the mercenaries in our world today, and equipment, that we could find him, I sure would like to be a part of that, but as I said, the Pakistani government, not all, are aiding him.

Because dealing with the actual problem of al Qaeda would make it impossible for them to manipulate public fear at election time.
