lets consider alternatives.. (and I'll call home a base)
1 base.. no where to go after a hit
2 bases.. runners running into one another on the basepath
3 bases.. either too far to run between 1st and 2nd, or too narrow a field of play, therefore too many foul balls.
5 bases.. I don't know, it looks silly.. I really don't have a good reason.
