*President lies/exaggerates to win public support of a war on "something." Communism or terrorism
*Congress grants the President a blank check to make war
*People soon realize it is being fought over nothing important
(unless you consider Halliburton's success worth our 3,000+ lives lost and billions of dollars wasted) and that even if we could win the war it would mean nothing
*War loses support and we lose global respect as we leave with our tails between our legs (this last part better happen sooner rather than later!)

Why is it so hard to see? How come we are still there? We know that Mr. President lied to the American people....couldn't the Republican party disown him? Couldn't the Democrats impeach him (and Cheney)? I just don't understand how it continues when nobody wants it!

I have been stating the similarities since this all began...the reason they don't want to see it is because they are of an uneducated and brain-washed ilk. The right-wingers are so completely blinded by their belief in a political party rather than the truth...that is why they claim there is nothing wrong with the environment, our economy, the current administration, why we are in the middle of someone else's civil war, etc...

It is not easy to impeach George Bush. You have to realize the the Dems only have a simple majority in both the House and Senate and you would need a 2/3 majority. You might be able to persuade a few Republicans to go along but you will not get a 2/3 majority.

As far as distancing themselves a few republicans are because they saw that the people are upset with how the country is being ran. That is how the Dems regained control over both houses. There is nothing more you can do at this point but wait him out.

There is no comparison my friend. Bush didn't lie to get us in Iraq, he had a majority who said their were WMDs and a minority who said their weren't, he had to go with what at the time seemed true. What I don't understand is that Libs are wanting us to be defeated in Iraq for their OWN political agenda, aswell as the media who have staked their namehood that we can't win (patriotic right?).

The true hypocricy is that you probably are a Obama supporter, who is the one who just a few days ago would want to jump into a war by INVADING Pakistan. He doesn't mean place surgical strikes or use specops to get rid of Osama, but he actually means an all out invasion. How this could make since i don't know. All this would do is cause for a dramatic morale shift in the troops (who are seeing and experiencing the progress thats being made in Iraq) in that Obama would declare defeat in Iraq (which I guess to you means something good!) and then just shift them over to Pakistan (who has a population of 156,000,00 who are about to have their own civil war (making Iraq look like a cake walk)). What Obama and others don't understand is that if we invade then the Pakistani government will be overtaken by radical islamists. This would be CATASTOPHIC. If for the ones who don't know, Pakistan has NUCLEAR WEAPONS. So nice job Obama, you just gave nukes to terrorists.

I tell you this my friend because while you criticize Bush for his mis-management of the war you have to look on your own side of the isle for its own blind problems.

From what you have written I know for a fact that you weren't ever apart of the military, you see while libs want to give up while its tough, military members WILL complete the mission as long as the politicians don't get involved. As a son of a veteran in the Army and a nephew of a USMC vet I am truly dispised by your lack of patriotism.

You are probably too simplistic to understand, but you can never compare one war with another, unless perhaps the same countries are involved. The geopolitics are different. The times are different. The ramifications of a win or loss are different. There is really NO comparison between Vietnam and Iraq. They may very well both be losses (or at least a lack of success), but that's about it. The President didn't lie about anything, he may have been wrong but he didn't lie, there is a difference.

Thanks for hoping for our countries failure, you are a real piece of work.

You are a fool.

Many people don't want to put the effort into actually thinking about the analogy and doing the comparison point by point -- too much effort for them.

But remember that the powers of the executive to wage war changed dramatically in 1973, with the War Powers Act.

And simply lying to the population is not grounds for impeachment -- as much as we might wish otherwise. If it were, most of our politicians would be eligible.

Oh I understand. The Democrats and the media have destroyed the morale of our troops and cried defeat before victory could stand a chance in both wars.

On the other hand, the Vietnam War lasted near around 15 years, with 58,000 troops dead. The Iraq War has lasted around 5 years, with 3,500 troops dead.

There is public "unrest" about Iraq, while there was public "outcry" about Vietnam. Why is the public today inclined to b*tch about it instead of do something about it like they did during Vietnam? Because there is no draft. Every single one of our troops is a volunteer who chose to be in the military. This is especially true of those who joined since the invasion. They are not a bunch of kids who got drafted away from the lives they wanted. Until and unless there is a draft, people will be content to b*tch about it and wait for the next administration.

It's pretty much up to the pres to stop no one else.
Impeach? then you have the head draft dodger in charge. The impeachment process is a big deal and would tie up congress for a year, think back to the rep. jerks that tried that with Clinton. I would hope the dem. should a little more sense.
