With all due respect; and without knowing whether or not you come from a frozen climate; Or have major health issues; and not knowing the condition or your house or its insualtion; I have to say at 71 degrees; you're wasting some serious money.

I live in Central FL. Today the outside temp is in the mid 90's. My inside temp is set at just 80; and it's way comfy in my house.

Certainly if you happen to be very active in your home; then 71 might feel warmish??? But I can't imagine how. If you were inactive, and healthy; 71 should feel chilly, and possibly uncomfortable.

Have you had the thermostat checked for accuracy? Have you had the AC unit cleaned at all? Have you blinds/drapes/curtains/ or window tint at least? Have you checked the exterior for openings? Have you considered caulking the windows? Are they old; loose fitting windows? Do you have children/pets/ guests who enter and exit often? Do you cook often, using the oven, in the peak heat periods of the day? Any or all of the above should be attended to if they haven't ever been, or haven't recently been checked. Probably if I were in your skin I'd call an AC tech first.

Even in the heavy heat the North has been getting this Summer; 71 should keep you chilly.

Make sure all the sunny windows are covered. Dark color material draws heat from the sun. Light colors reflect. Also Get a de-humidifier, make sure you use the exhaust fan when taking a bath or shower. and limit what you boil on the stove. You can turn the heat on for a few to heat the air up and then turn the air on. this will take the water out of the air too.

Your house getting below 71...that's alot to ask for a properly sized unit on a hot day. 15 to 20 degree split is referring to the difference between supply air( air coming out of the register, and return air(air going back through the filter and to the indoor unit) Your mechanic installed too small of a unit. At 1300 sq. ft i would have installed a 3.5 ton unit. Sorry to tell you, It's undersized by about 2 tons just based on the square footage alone

If you have an attic you might want to put a fan up there that would blow air out through one of the end windows. If it gets very hot there your A/C will not be able to cool your ceilings down enough to make the house comfortable.

Lower the thermostat to 67-69 degrees and the natural heat coming in should make the house comfortable. Good luck!

Keeping blinds and drapes closed during the heat of the date helps tremendously. Also the use of ceiling fans keeps the cool air from the air conditioner circulating longer. Let the fan on your air conditioner cycle, as keeping it on and running all the time only circulates the hot air. Hope this helps. With all of our ceiling fans on, we can keep our thermostat set at 76 and stay comfortable.

A ceiling fan & a dehumifier do wonders & they are now expensive. Also a floor fan to circulate the air even more.
