It is a mental institution and psychiatric hospital, now called a state hospital. People go there involuntary or voluntary, to be committed there for awhile. The people who live in such places have serious problems, or are suicidal.

State Hospital street name the nut house, or the loony bin, also called house of the crazies.

It is a place where they send people that are mentally incompetent to live in society because they are a threat to themselves or others.
