I doubt if the announcer thinks of it as boring, as in a way he is right there in the action. He'd be no different than any other sports announcer on TV. Even though the audience can see for themselves what's going on, the loud and exciting descriptions just add to the overall scene. Maybe you and I would find it boring, but I think the audience would disagree. Then there's this to consider. Maybe people watching it on TV have to take a potty break, but don't want to miss any of the action. So they turn the TV up louder and still can hear the turn-by-turn commentary while they answer nature's call.
