Why is close, (the opposite of open), pronounced so that the "s" sounds like a "z", and close (the opposite of far) is pronounced so that the "s" sounds like, well an "s"?

Why didnt they just spell one with a Z?

The English language is weird. Why do you call multiple goose "geese" but you don't call multiple moose "meese"?

cause dogs is spelled with a s and not a z
