the speakers you use with your p.c only have to have the correct connections and your ok
most speaker systems come with either 2.1 , 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, and all of these have specific ways to be connected
the sound card should also be configured to work with your type of speaker system
first you should make sure your speakers are correctly attached,go to http://www.creative.com/products/speakers/howto/?c=2&sc=2,and use the tutorial to assist you in connecting your speakers to your sound card
then go to your sound cards control center and select the appropriate configuration, there should be a option to select between the above types of speaker systems(2.1 , 5.1 , 7.1)
there should also be a speaker test to make sure all your speakers are working correctly, run this then go to the graphic equalizer and adjust this to your desired sound
personally i find that a good et of 2.1(2 x speakers and 1 x sub woofer) are all you need, however if music and video are your interest then a 5.1 or 7.1 would be a better choice
the best makes of speakers are logitech, creative and harman kardon
any more problems let me know
good luck mate!

Why are you struggling with the speakers? Are they too heavy for you to lift?

Serial numbers mean nothing. Almost any "computer speakers" should work with your machine, whatever it is. It all depends on the graphic/audio card you have fitted, and the connections available to you from the computer.

Check in your manual to see if you need to use a powered speaker system i.e., ones that need to be powered either from the mains supply or batteries.

Check also the soundcard in your computer. There may be different ports for powered and unpowered speakers.
